My name is Hannatu Princess Ishaya. I was born and raised in Kaduna State but an indigene of Niger State. I acquired my BSc in Applied Business Computing from the University of Sunderland and an MSc in Oil and Gas Management from Coventry University. I’ve always had a niche for the cosmetology and hair industry. Anyone that knows me from back in the university would tell you I was always the girl with a crazy and over the top hairstyles. Moving back to Nigeria, I had my eyes set on the oil industry but soon realized I couldn’t curb my obsession with the beauty industry, thus the birth of Bellasophia Beauty Lounge.
I decided to start a small beauty salon that would cater to the needs of young ladies in kaduna without having to break bank. The salon provides beauty services, retail in luxurious virgin hair, customwigs and makeup products at affordable prices.
I’ve been in this business for a year now and I can honestly say its been rewarding. However, you need to prepare for many challenges in a start-up business whether large or small. Some of these challenges include hiring the right people, money management, operational costs and poor pricing of products, which I’ve all faced.
In 5years, I see Bellasophia Branching out to include a professional makeup studio, a spa and having our own line of hair and makeup. My advice to upcoming beauticians is to brace up because this business is highly competitive. Have a business plan, trust me it helps to put things into perspective. There’s a saying that ‘whatever is worth doing is worth doing well’ if you give your all in a business, the reward of your labor will outweigh everything else.
